WEATHER BULLETIN Number Twelve - A Tropical Cyclone Warning: Typhoon ODETTE (USAGI) Issued at 7:00 AM, 20 September 2013 TYPHOON #OdettePH HAS GAINED STRENGTH AS IT CONTINUES TO THREATEN THE NORTHERN LUZON AREA. Location of eye/center: At 6:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon “ODETTE” was located based on all available data at 390 km East of Aparri, Cagayan (19.0°N, 125.8°E). Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph. Movement: Forecast to move Northwest at 15 kph. Forecast Positions: Typhoon “ODETTE” is expected to be at 50 km East of Basco, Batanes by tomorrow morning. By Sunday morning, it is expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 310 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes. • Public Storm Warning Signal No. 3 (Winds of 101-185 kph is expected in at least 18 hrs): Batanes Group of Islands •Public Storm Warning Signal No. 2 (Winds of 61-100 kph is expected in at least 24 hrs): Apayao and Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands. •Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 (Winds of 30-60 kph is expected within the next 36 hours) IIocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Abra, Kalinga and Isabela • Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 – 20 mm per hour (heavy-intense) within the 800 km diameter of the Typhoon. • Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signals #3, #2 & #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under signal #3 and #2 are alerted against storm surges. • “ODETTE” will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas. Residents in these areas are advised to be alert against flashfloods and landslides. • Sea travel is risky over the western seaboard of Southern Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas. • The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.
