WEATHER NEWS FOR MAURITIUS ISSUED AT 05H30 ON THURSDAY 15 JANUARY 2015. GENERAL SITUATION: At 04h00 the tropical cyclone BANSI was centred in latitude 17.7 degrees South and longitude 60.1 degrees East, that is about 375 km to the North East of Mauritius. It is moving towards the East-South-East at about 10 km/h. Active cloud bands associated with Bansi are influencing the local weather. FORECAST FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Weather will be cloudy with intermittent showers. The showers may be moderate to heavy at times with isolated thunderstorms. The maximum temperature will be 23 to 25 degrees Celsius over the central plateau and 29 to 31 degrees Celsius along the coasts. The showery weather will persist at night. The minimum temperature will be 20 to 22 degrees Celsius over the high grounds and 25 to 27 degrees Celsius elsewhere. Wind South-Easterly 40 to 50 km/h with gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, mainly over the high grounds and eastern slopes. Sea very rough with heavy swells of the order of 5 to 7 metres that will break mainly along the north western, northern and eastern coasts. Public is strongly advised not to venture at sea.
