WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AT - TopicsExpress

WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AT LAST!! We finally have a rainmaker to talk about! While it is not going to be the big rain producer we all would really love to see right now, it will produce rainfall for just about everybody. There is a trough coming through the Northwest right now. A system associated with it is looking much more impressive than it did 24 hours ago. The moisture levels have increased and that is wonderful to see. Looks like we will see a decent rain for just about all parts of our region save the nearly always dry southeastern parts in Lake and Modoc Counties. The Coastal areas and the Coast Range will see the higher amounts. Looks like about an inch possible total there. The Cascades should be seeing about 2/3rds of an inch, and the valleys and Northern California will range from .05 to a half inch of rain. The wetter amounts will be most likely for western Josephine County, and also for Douglas County. Western Siskiyou County may also see up to a half inch of rain and nobody will be disappointed to see that as it ought to really help subdue the Happy Camp Complex. The Onion Mountain Fire could also get meaningful rain on it. Have to hope that they will and radar is looking good for that right now. Thunderstorms are a threat for the coastal areas and for the Cascades and to the east. Not looking like we will see many. But, isolated storms could pop off. If you hear thunder, do not be surprised. In addition to the rains and possible thunder, the trough will bring in much cooler air. Highs tomorrow in Medford may struggle to make 80, and I do expect that widespread 70s will be seen. What showers are going will taper down and then die out from west to east as the day goes on. Going to feel like fall for a lot of people, especially in the morning with the clouds and showers still lurking. Clearing comes in for tomorrow night, and frost could develop east of the Cascades so be aware of that if you still have gardens going over there. Modoc County is likely for frost tomorrow night too. The trough will depart our area Thursday night, and then a ridge will build in quickly behind it. We will see sunny skies and quickly warming temperatures for Friday as we bounce back to the upper 80s, and then we turn hot for the weekend with highs in the mid 90s. Next week is looking very, very uncertain at this point. We look to start the week sunny and hot, but the data goes all over the place. One main model brings in a good well organized rainmaker mid week, and the other main model keeps us sunny, and dry with highs just above normal near 90 to the low 90s. It is that second solution that would appear more likely at this point given our longer term pattern. But, we will see. Just going to have to wait this one out. As we are seeing today, there can sometimes be big changes in the situation within 24 hours.
