WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA It - TopicsExpress

WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA It was well advertised and now it is here. A cutoff low has taken up position off San Francisco. This low will send waves of moisture into the area over the next 72 hours that will fuel development of thunderstorms. These storms will be dry storms for the most part and the expectation is that numerous fires will result from lightning strikes. Eventually all areas of the region will be seeing the threat for storms along with dry lightning. A Red Flag Warning covers all areas of Southern Oregon and Northern California. It does not matter where you live. In the mountains, in the valleys, at the coast, the high deserts east of the Cascades...EVERYBODY has the chance for thunderstorm activity with the potential for new fire starts from now through Tuesday. The storms will be wind producers and this will fuel spread of new fire starts. Existing fires could be spread in any direction. Fire growth could be explosive in fuels like grass if being driven by strong winds. Everybody needs to be watchful of the situation and prepared to take action if a fire should threaten your home and property. The picture on Monday takes an additional turn for the worse as severe storms are going to be likely. Data readings support strong to severe storms with gusty winds to 60 miles an hour or more, large hail of an inch in diameter or more, and frequent dangerous lightning. If severe weather threatens, move into well built buildings. We will still have a thunderstorm threat on Wednesday...but it is expected there will be far fewer of them, and they will also be more likely to have rain with them. Sunny skies return on Thursday. As the ridge builds back up, we will see heat returning for next weekend as highs will be int he upper 90s to low 100s. The heat will cause increased behavior out of the fires in the area. Be expecting skies to turn very smokey indeed.
