WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA The low responsible for creating the shower and thunderstorm activity is on the move north and is currently coming right through our area. As it moved northward last night it triggered the thunderstorm activity that went on through the overnight hours and continues this morning. As I write this, Roseburg is seeing thunder and lightning. And of course, with the lightning activity Red Flag Warnings have gone back up. However, those do not cover nearly as big an area as they did for the last three days. There are no current Red Flag Warnings for Northern California so good news for them down there. The storms today are still going to be producing frequent lightning and winds. Along with the threat for lightning to start more fires, the storms will still be capable of producing strong gusty winds to 40 miles an hour or more, and small hail. Severe level storms are a possibility again today and tonight with those storms being able to produce winds to 60 miles an hour and large hail of at least quarter size. As we reach next week, things look very, very good! It looks like sunny skies with temperatures right where they ought to be for mid August in the low 90s. And, it looks like the heavy smoke will be largely confined to the areas closest to the fires. In the Rogue Valley we will see some hazy conditions especially in the mornings, but the really strong inversions with the thick blanketing smoke do not appear likely to form.
