WEB OF LIES PART-II I woke up at 8:30 a.m. and took a quick shower. I’m not among those girls who would consider this movie as a date hence; there was no need to dress up like ramp girl. “Are you going somewhere, Pooja?” My mom asked me when she saw me blow drying my hair. Usually, I don’t blow my hair until I’m in a hurry or have to go out. “Yes. I’m going for a movie.” I replied with a bright smile on my face. “With whom? Did you ask your father?” She shot me another question. “With Sonali. Yes, he has permitted me.” The smile now broadened. The feeling of accomplishment clearly shone on my face. “Okay.” She replied and got busy with her work. I sat on my bed listening songs. Suddenly, my cell phone buzzed, it was a call from Ketan. “Hello!” I picked up the phone. “I’m reaching in fifteen minutes.” He responded. “Okay, I’ll be there.” I chirped. “See you, then.” The call ended. I quickly got up. Combed my hair and slipped in my shoes. “Are you going?” My mom called out. “Yes, she is waiting at the corner of the market.” I replied in hurry. “Why is she not coming at home?” A quick question. “Maa, she always forgets the way to home. I tell her every time and she forgets every time.” I replied and stepped out. I had barely reached the corner when my phone buzzed again, it was Ketan. “Hello!” I picked up. “Where are you?” He asked. “I’m about to reach. Where are you?” I replied with my eyes surfing for him. “I’m at the corner. Waiting for you. But I can’t see you.” He answered. Soon my eyes spotted him in red t-shirt and blue denim. “I saw you. I’m coming there.” I said. “Even I saw you.” Probably he had too discovered me walking in a long red t-shirt and greenish grey pants. I walked towards him. “Hey!” I stretched out my hand. He generously shook my hand and smiled. We soon started searching for an auto for the mall. Soon he fetched one and we squeezed ourselves in between the two co-passengers. As soon as we sat in and the driver moved on, my phone buzzed. The phone displayed ‘Mom Calling.’ My hands trembled. “Yes, maa.” I picked it up, unwillingly. “Reached?” She questioned. “Yes.” I tried to keep the conversation short. “Okay. Ask her to come along when you return.” “Why?” I was scared. “I want to meet her.” She said in an undeniable tone. “I will see that.” I disconnected the call, irritated. In ten minutes we reached the mall. “I have a bad feeling that I’ll be caught today.” I tugged at Ketan’s arm. “Why do you think so?” He asked in a comforting tone. “Mom called up and asked me to come with her.” I said in a depressing voice. “It will be fine. Relax.” He comforted me. Soon he was in the queue to buy tickets. “The show starts in half an hour.” He said as he came back to me. “Okay. Let’s go inside. It is too hot here.” I started walking and he followed. Soon the wait was over and we were in theatre. The movie started. We both stepped out of the hall quite unsatisfied. We both concluded that the movie was an average. “I think we should have gone for the other movie.” I said. “But I had already seen that.” Ketan replied. We had barely walked away from the mall when Ketan’s phone ringed and he got busy. As soon as his call ended and we headed towards the main road it was time for my fears to set off as my phone ringed up. It was a call from my mom. -Sneha
