WEB TA TRAINING --------------------------------- In the near future, Marines will be able to request tuition assistance through the web based portal of the Navy College Management Information System (NCMIS). The use of the web portal will empower Marines to register for college courses from any computer, anywhere, at any time. This will save precious resources at the Education Centers... and allow education staff to serve Marines to a higher degree. The shift to the NCMIS web application does not minimize any internal controls that are currently in place, but there are some changes to how tuition assistance applications will be processed. At the command level, the largest change will involve how the command approves a Marine for courses. Each command will need to designate one or more individuals as command approvers. When the Marine fills his/her online application, he/she will enter their approver’s e-mail address. When the application is submitted for approval, the approving official will receive an email containing a unique URL link that will allow the approving officer the ability to deny TA or send the application to the Education Center for authorization. There is a PowerPoint attached that explains the process with examples. The program manager from NCMIS will be on island to provide the initial training as follows: Command Approver Training will be held August 21-23, 2013. Camp Foster Education Center Wednesday, August 21st Friday, August 23rd Room 3, 1315-1615 Room 3, 0800-1100 Camp Hansen Education Center Thursday, August 22nd Room 220B, 1315-1615 Camp Kinser Education Center Friday, August 23rd Room 120, 1330-1630 Additional dates/times will be provided at each Education Center once staff have been trained on the new web-based TA system.
