WEC Interlagos Qualifying Report By @James_Newbold Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler sealed pole position for Audi in qualifying for the fourth round of the World Endurance Championship at Interlagos. The double Le Mans winners, who share with Andre Lotterer, beat team-mates Loic Duval and Tom Kristensen with a four-lap average just five hundredths of a second faster to secure the crew’s second pole of the year after Spa, a race they went on to win. Frenchman Treluyer declared himself content with the result heading into Sunday’s six hour race, in which tyre life is sure to be a factor. “It’s important that the tires remained in good condition for the race,” said Treluyer. “And of course on Sunday it’ll be about strategy as well. Things are looking good but we’ve got to maintain our concentration.” Toyota were represented by the number 8 team of Anthony Davidson/ Sebastien Buemi/ Stephane Sarrazin and qualified two tenths down in third, but expect their race pace to be closer to that of their German rivals. Rebellion Racing completed a thin LMP1 grid with Nico Prost/ Nick Heidfeld/ Mathias Beche in fourth. In LMP2, G-Drive bounced back from the disappointment of being disqualified from third at Le Mans in the best possible way, with John Martin and Mike Conway beating the Pecom entry of Nicolas Minassian and Pierre Kaffer to pole. Le Mans class winners Bertrand Baguette and Martin Plowman were third for Oak, with WEC debutant Bjorn Wirdheim’s Greaves-Zytek up in fourth. The GTE battle from Le Mans continued in Sao Paolo with Aston Martin and Porsche topping the charts, young Kiwi Richie Stanaway and veteran Pedro Lamy eventually taking GTE-Pro honours for the British marque ahead of Marc Lieb and Richard Leitz’s Porsche and the sister Aston of Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner. Ferrari could only muster fourth and fifth for Toni Vilander/ Kamui Kobyashi and Gianmaria Bruni/ Giancarlo Fisichella, but could however take solace from heading the GTE-Am field courtesy of AF Corse’s Marco Cioci and Matt Griffin.
