WEDNESDAY, 1/14/15 GOSPELS. Mark 4:3-9 “A Strange Story” (By Barry) WORSHIP: https://youtube/watch?v=cvYdy6aaJVA SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Mar&c=4&t=NLT#s=961003 Jesus told lots of stories. He explained some of them, but some He didnt. Let’s try something different today. He DID explain today’s story, but we won’t look at His explanation until next week. As you read this story, try to put yourself in the shoes of the people who first heard it. Honestly, they didnt have a CLUE what He was talking about. Ready? 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seed. 4 As he scattered it across his field, some of the seed fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate it. 5 Other seed fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seed sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But the plant soon wilted under the hot sun, and since it didn’t have deep roots, it died. 7 Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants so they produced no grain. 8 Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they sprouted, grew, and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” 9 Then he said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. You may or many not remember what this actual parable means, but if you had no idea, what kinds of guesses do you think you might have come up with? —2. Why do you think Jesus enjoyed telling mysterious stories so much? —3. What exactly did He mean in verse 9? —4. Without the explanation of the parable, is it still possible to apply it to your life? How? PRAYER:
