WEDNESDAY, 30TH OCT 2013 GO BEYOND THE ODDS “Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.” (2 Cor 8:1-2) You know sometimes, people like to blame their situation or circumstances for not doing what they are supposed to do or not being where they ought to be in life. They say things like “I would have if not that …” Meanwhile, the bible clearly tells us: “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” (Eccl 11:4) In other words, anyone that depends on the circumstances or environment before he does what he must do will end up never doing it. Invariably, such a person would have rubbed and denied himself of the benefit of such great works. Paul said about the Macedonian church that the outworking of the Spirit of God upon them was so different. He said in the midst of a great trial of affliction, the abundance of their joy and deep poverty resulted in something. While in the world, deep poverty results in structural adjustment programs where outflow of cash becomes greatly hindered, the bible says that in the case of the Macedonian church, their deep poverty resulted in the richness of their liberality! The more it seemed like they didn’t have, the more they gave. They were not like the brethren who say that the reason they do not give is because they do not have. For them, they understood that the fact that they didn’t have was the more reason they should give because only their giving can change their situation in life. Are you in debt or does your bill surpass and outweigh your income greatly that you wonder where and how you will be able to meet up with the bills? Here is one thing you can sure do. Start giving recklessly and before long, you will be receiving recklessly for the bible says: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38) DIGGING DEEP 2 Cor 9:6-8 PERSONAL STUDIES John 4-6, Ps 137 PRAYER/CONFESSION: Father I thank you because I am what your word says I am and not what the circumstance of my life dictate to me. I refuse to be brought under the influence of the pressures of this life for the word is working in me in the name of Jesus.
