WEDNESDAY, April 9 2 Corinthians 3:3. …written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. This is an odd passage for a book publisher to choose for today’s meditation. After all, we buy ink by the barrel and offer plenty of reading options for your tablet of choice. But at the core of the business of Forward Movement is the belief that it’s not words themselves that change lives, but the Spirit of the living God moving through these passages that transforms. Every day, as you read these meditations, know that we read them, too. We gather daily at 10:00 a.m. around the conference table at our office in Cincinnati and read Forward Day by Day. Sometimes the meditation generates discussion; other times, it rests, finding the right time and place to speak to each person. After the meditation, we pray for concerns shared by you, our readers, on our prayer website, and for those we share with each other. We close with The Lord’s Prayer. Words matter. Stories are important. These devotions, we hope, are helpful in your spiritual journey. But unless we invite the Holy Spirit to move through the words and into our hearts, then all of this is just ink and letters.
