WEDNESDAY GRATEFUL: I would be remiss to not include the one - TopicsExpress

WEDNESDAY GRATEFUL: I would be remiss to not include the one friend with tenure. Carolyn Murray, nee Helstrom....in 1950, we met during the year I have referred to as a year in California. I have sort of played at acting most of my life, starting with the role of KING MAC OF MACARONIA, in the 6th grade. The highlight of that performance was someone placing a thumbtack pointy side up on my throne and as I sat, there was a problem....LOL In my California sojourn I went to audition for a play being staged in one of the local high school auditoriums. Entering the building with no idea where to go I encountered a bubbly young lady as the water fountain and inquired. She introduced herself as Carolyn. We chatted as we walked into the auditorium, with her leading the way. The play was JOAN OF LORRAINE. Which is a play within a play...we both got parts, and of course the bubbly one played Joan. We did another play together GASLIGHT, during one performance I got the nickname that has stuck a lifetime..GIZZY. Came about after tipping over a piece of misplaced furniture as I was leaving the stage...with concern everybody asked how I felt, told them a bit dizzy, someone commented GOOD and dizzy, was contracted to Gizzy and thats the rest of that story...LOL Carolyn and I had a couple dates, no sparks of romance, but a deep respect for each other. When I left CA and returned to Utah, we stayed in touch for awhile. One of the more humorous moments, she was telling her family of this boy from Utah, she had met and her dad was talking about the new help at the hospital where he worked...same guy...yeah I worked at the hospital with her dad and was totally unaware. Her family moved to southern California and we lost track of each other for about 20 years. Along the way I had become a police officer, state legislator, business owner, and National Executive Director of the Good Sam RV Club. It took all of 30 days to know I could not work with the people who owned the club, so I left. Eventually forming an rv club of our own, we solicited another magazine to sponsor it, they would rather form their own, so I went to work with WHEELS AFIELD, a part of Petersen Publishing. During correspondence with the publisher of WA, it turns out Carolyn was executive secretary to the publisher. She send a note asking if this was the same Jimmy Platt...and yes it was, we talked on the phone for about half an hour.. I was invited to Los Angeles to talk with the magazine folks but most important was getting to see Carolyn again...after interviews and such, asked where I could find her...Headed to that office and as I approached the door, it opened and a lady came charging out, we passed, stopped, turned, and one of the 20th centuries greatest hugs occurred. She is from the end of June to the middle of August older than I, and a few times a year we talk, share emails, and acknowledge each others birthdays. In acknowledgement of her tenacity to stick around, I honor her this day with love, affection, and bestow the title of LIFELONG BESTEST FRIEND. Love you lady and thank you for all you have shared.... XOXOXOXO
