WEDNESDAY, November 19 Luke 17:11. On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. Did you catch that? Jesus was in between. He was going between Samaria and Galilee. He was in no man’s land, in that liminal space, the threshold between what was and what is to be. The gospel of Luke takes great pains to draw out the threads of Jesus’ expanding mission to the Samaritans and Gentiles beyond. The story of the ten lepers illustrates this expanding border of God’s mission well. In the first century, lepers and Samaritans were considered outcasts, people on the margins of society. So it is striking that Jesus highlights and praises the healed Samaritan leper.
