WEDNESDAYS BOOK REVIEW The Bravest Dog Ever: The True Story of Balto by Natalie Standiford Our 5-year-old dog-loving daughter adored this true story and so did her adventure-seeking 3.5 year-old brother. :) Its 1925, and mid-winter in Alaska. Two children from in the town of Nome become sick with diphtheria and desperately need medicine, but the train thats carrying it is stuck in the snow over 700 miles away! The towns only hope is a 21-team dog sled relay. Balto, the head dog on the second to the last run, leads his team through and extended run through blinding snowdrifts, over a frozen river, and around cracking ice before reaching Nome almost ten days BEFORE they were expected! A suspenseful, easy-to-read story that keeps childrens attention and teaches courage, perseverance, and team work. (I checked Amazon and discovered that its available for $3.12 today! amzn.to/1Dxvtxe
