WEDNESDAYS FORECAST UPDATE FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: WEDNESDAY: We were kept lovely and warm (16°C) last night by a blanket of low cloud, but there has only been a little drizzle (and no hill fog). With force 3 south-southeasterly breezes, the rest of the day should continue in a similar manner until about 4 or 5pm. At that time, it will become very damp and murky for the rest of the day, with an increasing risk of air-traffic disruption towards sunset. The surf should be lovely and clean on the west coast but, with 3 wave faces, it should be much more manageable for kids, learners and holidaymakers than it was yesterday. Dont forget how warm the water is at the moment, even under grey skies. The tides are about 9m high at roughly 8:30 in both the morning and the evening. If a low water walk to Lihou is your thing, then that will be 1.69m at 2:50pm. THURSDAY: Mild force 4 southwesterly breezes should bring a mostly dry with a mixture of cloud and hazy sunshine. There is a small chance of a brief shower or two, mainly in the early evening. The temperature should be 14 or 15°C at dawn, rising to 19° during the afternoon. FRIDAY: The wind will probably veer to a fresh force 5 west-southwesterly. This should bring a similar amount of cloud to Thursday, but it will probably a degree cooler. It should dry with great visibility though; perfect for a sheltered walk between Jerbourg and Fermain Bay. THE WEEKEND: This should mark the transition from a rather drab week to a much finer one. Saturday should be rather cloudy but probably dry, with moderate west-southwesterly breezes and a top temperature of 19°C in St Peter Port. Sunday should be more sunny, with light westerly breezes and fairly widespread max temperatures of 19-20°C. THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER: It may be back to work or school for most of us. However, keep your late afternoons and evenings free, because it looks as though we are going to get a week light winds and warm sunshine. Whats more, sea temperatures are at their annual peak and we are due some beautiful waves - courtesy of the distant hurricane Cristobal. Look out for my detailed surf forecast this weekend.
