Title of Article: Ashish Sharma Portraying Yamraj, the King of Death YAKSHAGANA! An art form from rural Indias Karnataka region, sometimes mistaken for Kathakali, was the dance form chosen for week 12 on JDJ whose theme was costumes and of all the contestants, Ashish Sharma and Shampa Sonthalia costumes were the most outstanding as rightly pointed out by Madhuri Dixit. For a non dancer like Ashish, learning this ancient dance form and performing it with the costumes which weigh a lot as the outfit as well as the head gear are very heavy and then to dance and jump around in itself is an major achievement. Shampa chose the newly released song from the Rohit Shetty /Ajay Devgan film SINGHAM RETURNS which is in the local Marathi language, the song Aata Maaji Satakli, Mala Raag Yetoh Aaheh which literally means, I have lost my cool, I am getting angry now and made it a bit funny by showing Yamraj, the King of Death, getting angry as no one was dying and Chitragupt (played by Shampa, who is to keep a tab on all those dying and has to inform Yamraj so he can go and bring the soul from earth), did a fabulous job keeping pace with Ashish as this time it was Ashish leading the dance and Shampa following. For a costume theme, they were a complete package of Costume + Make Up + Choreography. The steps were made to look very graceful and easy which they werent, and the end half circle jumps by Ashish, were really good taking into consideration his back problem and the weight of the full outfit and head gear. The judges awarded Ashish 27 marks out of 30 but he really deserved the full 30 points. We sure have a fighter on our hands who is willing to quietly bear all the pain to learn more and more new dance forms. Here is to the new Dancer on the block.
