WEEK 22 - GUN [Word count 280] BANG BANG – HE SHOT ME DOWN “Bang!” Nothing. Billy took aim again. “Bang!” This time Ginger fell, clutching his chest and groaning as he hit the ground and rolled over on to his back, legs twitching. His eyes rolled in his head. Billy approached at a run, laughing. Standing over the body he nudged it with his foot. “Gotcha!” Gloating. Gleeful. Then Ginger’s hand shot out and grabbed his ankle, jerked it, and down he went, his elbow and then his shoulder hitting the ground with a thud as the gun shot out of his hand. Ginger quickly hauled himself up and on to his assailant, reaching over him for the gun, but was flung aside by an almighty upwards push from underneath. They rolled around in the dust, over and over, each making a grab for the gun and each in turn being hauled back or pushed away from it by the other. It lay tantalizingly out of reach. The dust billowed up around them in clouds and Billy started coughing as it filled his mouth and eyes. Ginger saw his chance and seized it. He grabbed Billy by the shirt and hauled him to his knees. Keeping his eyes firmly fixed on Billy’s face, Ginger reached down and picked up the gun. “Looks like it’s ME wot’s gotcha now,” he drawled and pushed Billy back, just far enough back to be able to take aim. He raised the gun and pointed it straight between Billy’s eyes. “Bang!” Billy laughed. “Bang!” Ginger had another go. Billy laughed louder, still upright. “No fair Billy!” cried Ginger, throwing down the gun in disgust and outrage. “I fell down when you shot me. I’m not playing any more.” C Holland Jackson. © 2014.
