WEEKEND ROAD WORK SUFFOLK, VA (September 13, 2013) The following roads in the City of Suffolk will have closures that could cause delays this weekend due to construction and maintenance projects: (Route 17) -- The Godwin Bridge on Route 17 will be reduced to one lane beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, September 13. The remaining lane will be open to alternating traffic at all times. The purpose of this temporary closure is to complete a surface overlay of the riding surface of the bridge. Both lanes of travel will be reopened to traffic no later than 5 a.m., on Monday, September 16. Motorists may call the Public Works Roadway Operations Division at 514-7600 for additional information on this project. (Route 58) – Suffolk Department of Public Works will have the left lane of Route 58 eastbound closed, Sunday, September 15, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Personnel will be pulling the overgrown grass on the pavement of the inside shoulder from the curve east of the Nansemond Parkway overpass (where the road widens from 2 lanes to 3) to the Chesapeake line. There will also be two slope mowers cutting the low side of the slopes on Route 58 to the Route 10 interchange. This work will allow water to properly drain off and not pond on the roadway.
