WEEKLY BROADCAST WEEK OF 7 SEPTEMBER 2014 COMMANDER’S CORNER: - TopicsExpress

WEEKLY BROADCAST WEEK OF 7 SEPTEMBER 2014 COMMANDER’S CORNER: Al Kinsall, Groton Base Commander Shipmates; The USSVI (SUBVETS) convention is over. This year it was in San Francisco California. Vice Commander Robert Perritt joined me this year to have a presence and audience with the various Command levels of USSVI. Doing so, we were able to have some rather lengthy discussion with them and other bases. Interesting developments arose that made us feel extremely privileged to be a part of Groton Base; an experience that none of the others out there had not and cannot experience. We are fortunate to have a pool of active and retired military to continually draw on to maintain and grow our membership levels while other bases aren’t as fortunate. Also, I got the impression that most of the members that I spoke with have put behind them the Groton Base problems of last year; and so should we. Over the next few months we will be under-going a financial review of the last three years of operation. This is a task that is needed to done to ensure financial stability for the base in years to come. This review will be chaired by Vice Commander Perritt who is in accordance with our bylaws the Finance Chairman. When the review is completed a full report will be presented to the membership. In the meanwhile, please support your Base here at Groton and put your expertise to work for the Base. Thank you and smooth sailing… FEATURED STORY: 60th ANNIVERSARY OF THE USS NAUTILUS SSN 571 The Mayor of Groton City, who would like to extend an invitation to all Submarine Veterans to join in the festivities celebrating the 60th anniversary of the USS Nautilus SSN 571— Opening Reception: Sunday, September 7 from 3-5pm The public is invited City of Groton Municipal Building A juried art exhibition in celebration of the Submarine USS Nautilus in recognition of its 60th Anniversary and the history of the Submarine Force in Groton.
