WEEKLY BULLETIN - 29 OCTOBER 2013 I would like to thank all of you who were able to attend our Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday. While not the most scintillating event in our church calendar, it is nevertheless important in terms of our financial and legal requirements as a church and a charity. I am pleased to report that the budget was approved by the meeting and my thanks go to Sally for her considerable amount of work in this area, and also to Mike for his assistance to Sally. The meeting also voted Sally on to the Church Council for a further two year term, as well as Mia. I am grateful to both of them for their willingness to serve you in this way. Jenny, who has served on the Council for many years, initially as Lay Delegate, has decided not to continue with this particular ministry, but I am very thankful to her for her input and the length of time she gave to LS in this area. The Church Council now comprises Mike, Mia, Sally, Dorothy, Liz and myself and this body is charged with the administrative and financial well-being of your church. Please hold them in your prayers as they seek to serve you over the coming year. This coming Sunday worship will be slightly different in that there is less set and responsive liturgy. It is not quite as loose as the service we offered in August, but nonetheless will hopefully offer a sense of gentle fluidity. It is, of course, simply another means of worshipping God. The service starts, as usual, at 6.00pm and your presence is warmly anticipated. The following Sunday - 10 November - is Remembrance Sunday, and our speaker, from within the congregation, will be sharing with us the impact of war from a very personal point of view - the loss of a sibling and the effects of PTSD. I hope that you can join us to hear how such loss impacts on families and to be there in solidarity. We have just received a letter from our sponsored boy, Fred, which I copy here for your information: Dear LSMCC, With pleasure and joy Fred send you greetings in Jesus name. Hows are you over there. here am very fine studying now in class six. This term began on 27 My 2013 after a long holiday which now we are at school. I love David he is my best friend because he is good mannered boy and the teachers likes us in class. I like english. The season now is fine to carry out some activities like tilling the land, sowing sorghum etc. I want to thank you very much for support ever since I pray for you to do the best in your life. I wish you the best of all in Jesus name. With love, Fred. I will send a Christmas card on your behalf to Fred very soon, as we need to get it away to ensure that he receives it before they break for holiday at the beginning of December and to allow for the slow transfer of post to and within Uganda. If I have time I will enclose a short letter, as I dont think weve written to him for some considerable time - no one offered the last time I sought a volunteer, but if you would like to, just let me know. I will also get our annual cheque of £20 to Abaana away soon so that he and his friends can enjoy the Christmas party Abaana will put on at his school. We continue to collect food and goods for Julian House and the Bath Foodbank. The next recipient of our donations will be the Julian House night shelter. As we draw closer to Christmas we are asked to not just bring along the usual fare, but also some Christmas treats to enable the users of the night shelter to have a few of the things that we take for granted at that time of year. If you are inclined - and can afford it of course - you might like to think about little gifts other than food, like socks, gloves or vests. All that we collect over the next few weeks will be delivered to the night shelter after the service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday 22 December. Thank you to those of you who have contributed over recent weeks - I am delighted by the response so far - but we only have eight Sundays left to collect, and therefore give, as much as we can! Blessings, Kieren The Lord who dwells on high is exalted, and will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge. Isaiah 33:5-6 God of nations, you have given us a good land for our heritage; inspire in the people of our country a love of peace and a zeal for justice, that we may use our liberty to win justice for poor and rich alike, and bring trust and friendship to all people.
