WEEKLY BULLETIN – OPTIMIST CLUB OF TAMPA TAMPA’S FIRST OPTIMIST CLUB CHARTERED 1926 – RE-CHARTERED 1935 P.O. BOX 243 – TAMPA, FLORIDA, 33601 “FRIEND OF YOUTH” MEETS WEDNESDAY NOON AT SHERATON TAMPA RIVERWALK HOTEL 200 N. Ashley Street, downtown Volume 78, Number 39September 25, 2013 THIS WEEK – Our Wednesday Noon program will be Dan Castro, VP of HDR Engineering, talking about methods of dealing with our growing mountains of solid waste. Special guest will be Risa Barnett, from Hillsborough County Schools Audiology Dept. INSTALLATION DINNER – is this Saturday, 6:30 PM at The Tampa Club, Dress is “dressy casual”. DIRECTIONS: Bank of America Building is on Southwest corner of Tampa Street & Kennedy Blvd. Southbound on Tampa Street, go past the building to the next block, & enter the parking garage on your right at the far end of the building. NOTE: If the door into the garage is down, press button to speak to Security, tell them you are going to dinner at the Tampa Club, and they will open the door. Drive up to the 3rd floor, and take a ticket. Then drive up to at least the 5th floor and park near the elevator. (Floors 3 & 4 are reserved) NOTE: Take the garage ticket with you to the Tampa Club, to be validated in case the cashier is still on duty when we leave. Take the garage elevator down to level 3 where there is a skybridge to the upper lobby of the Bank of America Building. NOTE: You may have to push a button & respond to a remote security guard to enter the skybridge. In the Upper Lobby, go to the middle elevator bank. NOTE: NEW ELEVATOR SYSTEM. Use “call screens” at ends of elevator bank instead of buttons in the cars. Touch the on-screen button for The Tampa Club, and the screen will show you which ‘lettered” car to get on. That car will take you to the 41st floor. On the 41st floor, don’t enter the Tampa Club doors (stairs are closed). Take the short elevator ride to the 42nd floor.. As you get off that elevator, turn left & walk down the hallway into the Rotunda Ballroom where our dinner will be this year. NEXT WEEK – 10/2, our regular Wednesday Noon luncheon will feature Gena Torres, Senior Planner at Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization, Transportation Planning Division. She will introduce us to the “Imagine Hillsborough in 2040” program. LAST WEEK there was no meeting, so nothing to report, except “Who forgot & went to the hotel anyway?”. Omitted from previous Bulletin: At Board meeting at John’s home on 9/10 the Board recognized the economic necessity of a dues increase, and voted to increase dues effective 10/1/13. Members present at the general meeting on 9/11 voted to approve the Board’s action. COMING UP –. 10/9/13 – Wed.Noon –Harry Heuman, a survivor of the Holocaust, in Germany in WW2, tells about that and about the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg.. 10/16/13 – Wed.Noon - No Meeting (cancelled to help cover cost of installation dinner). 10/23/13 – Wed.Noon – Greg Bayor, Tampa Parks & Recreation Director.. 10/30/13 – Wed.Noon – Hillsborough County Comissioner Kevin Beckner.
