WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Dear All, Well what can I say!! Congratulations ladies on your great win over the blokes on Captain”s Day last Saturday. You were just too good. BUT we blokes are already planning for next year’s event and without giving too much away we are recruiting two members of the constabulary and their sole responsibility is to hold Jill “The Phantom Tee Marker Mover” Gleeson under house arrest until three minutes before the shotgun start!! That could solve a lot of our problems. Captain’s day was a super day and Linda and I thank you for supporting it. We had about 70 in the clubhouse for presentation - other clubs would kill for that. So well done to all. Coming up this week we have the Men’s Open Championship which will be played on Saturday and Sunday. We have just under a 100 in the field at this stage so hopefully this will build to around 120 by Saturday. This event is sponsored by the Red Cliffs Club who we thank very much. They are also the sponsor’s of the ladies open which will be played next Wednesday. The ladies have decided not to play at Red Cliffs on Saturday but Merbein have a stableford event where our ladies would be made most welcome. The Tri State Masters was at Red Cliffs yesterday and what a fantastic day it was. I am not even going to begin to list the names of all our members who helped us out with lunch, the evening meal, the bar work, the scrutineering and all the other jobs that were done. Just a huge thank you to anyone who assisted. A very rough tally up of what we made came to around $7000 for the day. Well done. Thanks to all those who assisted this week in preparing the course and cleaning the clubhouse for the upcoming events. We had 14 at last Sunday’s working bee and lots helping out during the week so thanks to you all. Today we had 35 in the field for the medley stableford and in A Grade Deb Hassell who celebrated her 21 and some months birthday today won with 37 points on a count back from Bobbie Ramsay. Marion Pengelly had the round of the day scoring 40 points to win B Grade from Kevin Leach and Mick Snadden won the Pig. Speaking of the Pig – it has raised about $2200 to date. Hopefully the Council will announce soon if we have been successful in our grant application which will go along way to levelling the floor, the Pig will cover our share of the cost. We have one tee sponsor sign for sale, the men’s 16th, Greg Frost who had the sign has moved from the area so for the mere cost of $50 a year it is yours. Just see Leigh. The dam on the 9th has been enlarged and now comes around the left hand side of the green. For the near future the water is in play but the earth surrounds and newly laid grass is GUR. Duties this week have Sandy Marwood staring the day and Joan Ryan with the middle and end session, good job girls. Linda is starting the match committee duties on Saturday organising the early starters, Sheryl, Rita, Deb and some other lovely ladies will follow up in the afternoon. Sunday has Sue and Sheryl putting the field out and Mick and Deb finishing up. This will be my last “Weekly News” for a while, Bob Merlin is taking up” the keyboard” in my absence so if you have any news to report see Bob or if you don’t get the news next week email Bob at [email protected] and he will put you on his list. Catch you for the annual general meeting in August, Cheers, Mick
