WEEKLY UPDATE: Well, this update is not going to be the - TopicsExpress

WEEKLY UPDATE: Well, this update is not going to be the happiest of them as several things have to be reported that arent so great. In life, that is how things happen though. For starters, intake is closed until further notice. We simply cant take in any new dogs due to lack of space and lack of funds. We are in need of fosters to continue helping. We have lost a few fosters and that is normal. Some due to health reasons and some due to job changes. Life happens. I personally, had to take in the bulk of the dogs when the fosters quit and it has somewhat hurt my business in that I have no room for boarding dogs and no space for my grooming client dogs. We are trying to place/adopt dogs now and as we all know, this process can take time. We wish that we could help/save them all and that is probably why we are so overloaded right now...because we have such huge hearts and dont like to say no. We will continue to seek fosters and continue to do courtesy posts in order to help save as many animals as possible. Funding has always been an issue. It is not a new problem and all rescue groups have this problem. Saving animals costs money...plain and simple. In most cases, our adoption fees do not even begin to cover the expenses on the dog being adopted. I have been screamed at, questioned and hung up on concerning adoption fees. We have an explanation that details out what all our adoption fees cover in the notes section of this page called Why have an adoption fee. Our assist programs are on hold right now or at least on an extreme case by case basis. We currently have outstanding vet bills at several vets in Coffee Co. 2 of them are high. We really need help with the 2 that are on the higher side. The bill with Old Stone Fort Mobile Veterinary Services was for saving the life of Quincy, the parvo puppy. I had to make a life or death decision with him on a Saturday evening and I chose life for him...now we have a $345.00 vet bill. I suppose that isnt much to save a life, but it is tons to us when that could have vetted at least 6 healthy dogs with full vetting including their spay or neuter. Did I make the right decision??? YES..I have no regrets. The other vet bill we have is who knows how much and is with Pet Medical Center, Amy R. Nickels DVM for helping give Twix her life back. Twix was the poor soul that had been hit by a car, left for dead and then picked up by TAS....only to be bounced around between vets until NKM stepped in to help her get the necessary care she needed and deserved. Did I once again make the right decision? YES, I again have no regrets. Especially after seeing Twix meet her potential adopter yesterday. If it all works out, Twix will be in training as a service dog for the next 3 to 4 months as an emotional support dog and then later on as a light assistance dog. Twix loved the lady and the lady loved Twix....they certainly appeared as though they were meant for each other :) What I am asking from all of our wonderful supporters is to share our adoptable dogs to help find them their forever homes. We are also in need of financial help with vet bills as well. Donations can be made directly to the vets office or to NKM via Paypal with a note as to what it is for. Any help, no matter what size would be greatly appreciated. We also need financial help to assist in our monthly bills to purchase dog food, assist with transports and other misc expenses that we encounter. We are getting close to having to order medical supplies again and that normally runs close to $750. We also currently have an outstanding food/supply bill that we have to pay that is for foster food,, assist food/supplies and misc supplies that we have had to have over the past 8 weeks. We want to get things back on track so we can start taking in dogs again, but we also understand our limitations as there are only 2 of us running NKM and one other person that is really helping us on a semi full time basis. Thank you and rescue on!! Debbie President NKM
