WELCOME! Interesting how each state along the I-95 corridor - TopicsExpress

WELCOME! Interesting how each state along the I-95 corridor has a big welcome sign at their state line. They gave me a reason to think about the idea of welcoming others into our lives; welcoming others into my life. I got to wondering how big my welcome sign is. Is it clearly visible? Can you see it at night? In bad weather? Is there any overgrowth obstructing it? In this super highway of life there are vehicles of all shapes and sizes traveling in both directions - north AND south! And theyre filled with people from all walks of life, every imaginal age, color, ethnicity, and belief. Before we welcome them into our state do we check to see if we agree with every driver and passenger? Do they pass the test to make sure they believe what we believe? Do we set up toll booths to make sure these vehicles pay the price of being welcomed into our lives? Do we set up speed traps so we can play the gotcha game that somehow makes us feel validated? Or do we stake that welcome sign in the ground, anchor it so it stays in place, and then check on it regularly to make sure weeds dont grow up over it? When I think about how I want people to enter into my life I guess I better check to see that the welcome sign is there for everyone. Oh, how many times I wanted to hide that sign. How many time I wished people would miss it as they sped past my state line. Oh how I need to work on so many things... Its what we do, isnt it? We want to be welcoming but then we add all kinds of conditions and before we know it instead of a big welcome sign we have a billboard with a list of conditions. Human nature??? I think thats an excuse; a cop out for prejudice, fear, and just downright hate. And Im no better than the state on either side of me. May God forgive me for the times I acted with a less than welcoming heart. But that doesnt mean I cant change. It doesnt have to be the last mile marker on this journey. In fact, I think I still have time to grab the weed wacker out of the shed and go to town on some of that crap thats covering my welcome sign. Then a fresh coat of paint, and before I know it all lanes of this super highway coming into my state will have a clear view of that sign. How about you? You ready to roll up your sleeves with me and get to work? What would your sign read? Theres my preachin for this Sunday. Have a GREAT day, everyone!
