WELCOME TO SEPTEMBER AND ENJOY GODS BLESSING. I just finished reading chapter 5 of Rev. Prof. J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadus Contemporary Pentecostal Christianity: Interpretations from an African Context. The chapter is titled: For Open Doors: Interpretation of Giving. In this chapter, he traces the theology of giving, how contemporary Pentecostal/Charismatic Church preachers [and I add some preachers of the historical churches] interpret giving (tithing, offering, love offering, etc) and offers his own suggestion on how to balance our teaching on giving. Asamoah-Gyadu contends that the general teaching that ...giving stimulates divine response to human desire has given rise to Transactional Giving - reciprocal giving where the giver expects appropriate redemptive uplifts from God when giving obligations are met. He does not refute the fact that the Bible teaches that God blesses his people when they give. He rather questions the place of Gods grace in human life if every blessing, deliverance and intervention is a transactional response to giving. I WILL BE SHARING QUOTES FROM THIS CHAPTER WITH YOU WITHIN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER.
