WELCOME TO SKYPLEX. HOW TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK IN THE SKY. Big changes are coming to the Orlando, Florida skyline, namely a tourist thrill-ride attraction called Skyplex. While some roller coaster architects aim to build rides inches taller than previous record-holders, one monster is set to rewrite the record books. Take a look at Skyscraper, which is slated to open in 2016 as the worlds first Polercoaster, according to an official release announcing the Orlando, Florida, attraction. The rides tracks will wrap around a massive tower known as SKYPLEX, and the roller coaster will start an astounding 580 feet above the ground. We believe thats taller than the Washington Monument, which stands 555 feet tall. It will cost $200 million to build the complex, according to the report, and SKYPLEX will become the tallest structure in the Orlando area once completed. At the top of the roller coaster will be a restaurant, which can also be used as an events space with an observation deck. The roller coaster itself can handle 1,600 people per hour and will cost approximately $18 to ride per person. “A three-minute ride on Skyscraper will include loops, barrel rolls and a top speed of about 65 mph as it careens toward the ground,” said Chris Kraftchick, a regional representative for the American Coaster Enthusiasts in an Orlando Sentinel report. There will also be a 425-foot Ferris wheel built nearby, named the Orlando Eye, which will open before the Skyscraper.
