WELCOME TO TENERIFE //// BIENVENIDO A TENERIFE Sr. Stephen Hawking The President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Carlos Alonso, has welcomed the physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking, who has come to the island from England to participate in the international Starmus Festival. Alongside Alonso, also present at the South Quay Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife were the Minister of Economy, Finance and Security of the Canary Islands, Javier González Ortiz; Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez; the director of the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society, Juan Ruiz Alzola, and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ricardo Fernandez de la Puente, among other authorities. Hawking set off last Monday from Southampton (England) on board the Oceana cruise liner and will spend a month on the island. He will deliver two lectures on the subject of popular science at the Starmus Festival, to be held from 22 to September 27.
