WELL DIRECTED OUTRAGE ONLY PLEASE . . . Twice in my life I have had occasion to share, one on one, the fears and apprehensions of those just hours before deployment and heading to war the first time. The first occasion happened when I was a young Vietnam War Protester and prided myself a conscientious objector with high minded ideals that I was not afraid to express in no uncertain terms to anyone who listen, including hapless teen draftees who would soon die. The second occasion was in 2001 when President Bush announced the pending deployment of troops. I was immediately contacted through social media by a soldier I had never met or heard of - with bags packed he poured out his fears and utter disbelief He explained that he was a National Guardsman who never thought he would be facing death when he enlisted in a time of peace for the purpose of education and subsequent career. Although I considered myself older and wiser between these two wars, the fate of the first soldier who had poured his heart to me had now left me shaken and uncertain how to comfort this new trembling voice searching for courage. Since that time I have lost a relative to PSTD and finally understand that I have a number of relatives who have served and suffered in their own quiet ways - Including my father who served at the Battle of the Bulge of which he never spoke. I am still vehemently against any war if our country has not been directly attacked and outraged with outright lies about threats to our nation. With this knowledge I hate war even more! - I flew into a rage and went face on with recruiting officers that approached my children in high school - even though any hint of war seemed unimaginable during that time. Today I urge everyone to continue objecting to war in all instances when other means are available to negotiate peace. Yet, I also urge everyone to remember that we also demand national security from the same enlisted personnel who are slandered for service to our nation. Our military personnel are our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters caught up in this insanity and are being abused both by the system of greed as well as ordinary American citizens. It is no wonder these dedicated people feel hopeless and march to their own deaths when a war of conscience rages within and all about them Again, please try to have compassion for those in the crossfire here at home and place the blame for senseless wars where they belong . . . on Capital Hill. Vote the War Hawks out of political existence every chance you get! .. . . Honor the sacrifice of our vets caught in this crossfire. . . . they are being treated less than dogs by some people who are too unconcerned to vote and that too is a crime against compassion and humanity.
