WELL, LETS SAY IT CLEAR AND DIRECT: WHEN WILL PEOPLE GET OFF - TopicsExpress

WELL, LETS SAY IT CLEAR AND DIRECT: WHEN WILL PEOPLE GET OFF THEIR ASSES? Too direct? I do not think so! People are quick to label the homeless as lazy, but what about doing something to end the suffering out there? I have heard and read so many excuses, about why it is best to ignore homelessness. I see so many comments like how sad this or that is, when i post something. Okay... and?!?! Spread the word, tell other people! I know that many of you do, some do even more and have become very active raising awareness. Thomas Thomas Francis Rebmans Video below is very emotional and heartfelt. And he i so right, the exhaustion and despair he feels after just days on the street as a homeless... imagine those, that have been homeless for months, years! I am struggling with homelessness myself. I KNOW! People wonder about mental conditions among the homeless population. Well, imagine being homeless... how likely is it, that YOU would not fall into a severe depression, feel hopeless after trying and trying to get back on your feet, etc.? Look at those folks, that loose their expensive car and their house is being foreclosed on: Some committed suicide. They did not even TRY to survive. the homeless are some tough survivors, very resilient and resourceful individual! And we do not want to hire them, we as a society, exclude them and ignore them? Who are we? Now, perhaps it is time for me, to find a few very direct words towards two organizations in Ocala (at this point i really do not care about making enemies): Marion County Homeless Council: Shame on you! No blanket drives when it is cold, no awareness campaign, NOTHING! All the claims on your website (including the new updated version) on what services you are providing: YOU ARE KIDDING, RIGHT?! Inquiries about who the members of the Homeless Council are, remain mostly unanswered or vague. Usually there are no funds available to actually help anyone. Okay, but: Why no awareness campaign whatsoever? No one will provide funds, when the public is unaware. Once in a while the Council comes up with a number on how many homeless they think are in Marion County: around 500... If any of the council members had actually walked among the homeless, or been out there at the feedings, they would KNOW that number is nonsense, way too low! Relying on the Police to count the homeless... really? Just add up the Belleview and Ocala Soup Kitchen statistics on how many individuals they feed every day, that should give you a clue! And no, not every single homeless around the county will appear there. The Salvation Army - Ocala, Florida , provides a bed to sleep in, food, laundry facility and showers. Sometimes they provide rides to and from Doctors Appointments. They also claim to help with job search. No, Sally... you do not! The poor overworked Case Worker asks clients to bring back a filled out sheet of paper with locations the individual applied. Empathy... ugh! probably better than at other Salvation Army location, but some clients get evicted for benign reasons, while some others are looked upon more favorable for unknown reasons. The facility, as do most Shelters, runs on a rigid schedule, day after day. There is barely room for individual problem and need of their clients. Dont you say otherwise, Salvation Army! They are doing a lot of good, but THE SHELTER APPROACH IS OUTDATED, IT DOES NOT WORK!!! HOUSING WORKS AND IS CHEAPER!!! Look at the state of Utah, for example. In general, too many Organizations that claim to help the Homeless, are just chasing funds, they lost the focus on those that need help! I stand by that statement. Enough ranting from me today. If you have not watched Toms Video yet, please do so. #teamaok
