WFP is deploying boats and a helicopter to be based in Bangula to ensure delivery of the biscuits and other humanitarian cargo to floods affected areas that remain entirely cut off, according to Khonje. The United Nations humanitarian aid organization has been providing food assistance to Chikhwawa, Mulanje, and Phalombe districts and Khonje said by the end of the week, WFP aims to reach 150,000 flood-affected people with food assistance. World Vision and Norwegian Church Aid have also flown in relief items such as tents, water filters, mosquito nets and dolls for children, according to Gift Mafuleka, Deputy Director for Department of Disaster Management Affairs, who was at KIA to welcome the relief items.
