WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DUA. Subhan’Allaah. If we trace back, this was a du’aa made by our beloved Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam, a du’aa he said after he talked about the heart [qalb] of the person. As the narration says: Amr bin Al-As Radiyallahu Anhu reported that he heard the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam say: All the hearts of Adaam’s children are between the two fingers of the Most Merciful, as if they were one heart that He controls as He wills. Then the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam supplicated these very words. [Hadith is found in Muslim] See, my brothers and sisters in Islaam there are many ahadith that describes the heart. It is said that the subject of hearts is sensitive but important, hence, the heart has been named al-qalb because of the speed with which it turns over and changes [taqallub]. Our beloved Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam said in various ahadith the following: [1] The heart was named as such due to its fluctuation. The example of the heart is like a fever caught on a tree trunk, with the wind turning it over and over. [ 1] Ahmad | Graded Sound by Al-Abani] [2] The example of the heart is like a feather caught on open ground, with the wind turning it over and over. [ Ibn Abi Asim | Graded Sound by Al-Abani]. [3] The heart of the son of Adaam goes up and down faster than a violently boiling pot. [Ibn Abi Asim | Graded Sound by Al-Abani]. [4] …it turns over more than [the contents] of a pot when boiling [Ahmad | At Tirmidhi | An-Nasa’i] Subhan’Allaah, look how delicate the heart is. We have to always protect and preserve it, not only because it is part of our body but it is where we find rest, peace and ease because it is the dwelling place of Allaah Azza Wa Jall in us. Subhan’Allaah. Allaahumma muqalliba al quloob thabbit qalbee ‘alaa ta’atika - let these words be a daily routine for our tongues to utter, let it be a remembrance to us so that we may not find harshness or hardness in our hearts. You know the strongest part of your body it is the heart, the qalb tho it changes rapidly but as long as you have Allaah Azza Wa Jall in it, it will continue to be filled with His remembrance, His barakah, His Love, Guidance and Protection. ____ And we pray that Allaah Azza Wa Jall makes our heart firm on this beautiful mercy from Him, on this beautiful deen, Al Islam. Amiin.
