~~~~ WHAT A HAPPY DECEMBER ! ~~~~ The price of petrol is set to increase by 17 cents per litre from midnight this Tuesday. The price of diesel will go up by around 10 cents per litre while illuminating paraffin increases by around 16 cents per litre. December may prove to be an expensive month for consumers with e-tolls also coming into effect on Tuesday. Gantries will go live on a number of Gauteng highways. But a major legal challenge is set to be launched on Monday to stop e-tolling in Gauteng. The Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front Plus (FF+) have both launched fresh legal action against the system, due to be heard on Monday, using a technical argument about the law governing the system. Meanwhile, the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) says Gauteng motorists must not feel bullied into buying e-tags because its not against the law not to purchase one. Its still unclear how many Gauteng residents have bought e-tags for discounted rates although the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) says there has been an increase in the number of tags purchased.
