WHAT AN AFTERNOON? My family was just recovering from a terrible bout of the flu. In more ways than one, it was a rough week for us. We felt like we were living in hell. The dirty clothes kept on piling. The water in tank didn’t have enough pressure to cause us to flush the toilet, much less to do laundry. As we looked around the home environment, we felt dirty and violated by WASCO. How could a utility company which is committed to quality of service and its Universal Service Obligations be so callous? Sanitation had gone past a critical angle. I called my friend at Roblot to find out what was the situation there! He was laughing at me! He told me his water problems were fixed. WASCO had diverted the water from Fond St. Jacques to Roblot and the community was all smiles. Incidentally, that “divertion” was a suggestion that I made to WASCO! For purposes of enlightenment, I need to let you know that, as it now stands, the residents of Upper Martin (who live less than 150 metres from me get their water from Fond St. Jacques twice a week – and that’s quite consistent). We – at Lower Martin - get water from Delcer/St. Remy. So, in the height of the crisis about 2 0r 3 months ago - I suggested to WASCO that they could considering easing our pain down the hill by opening the valves at Upper Martin periodically. WASCO’S explanation to me was: the water pressure would be too high; I suggested the installation of a pressure-reducing valve. The answer: that was too expensive. But whatever it is, I’m happy Roblot has got some relief. Today was our 4th consecutive day without water; we last got water on Tuesday November 04 and on Wednesday (Nov 5) for about an hour and half. We got no water from Nov 6 thru to today until at about 5pm. I’m sorry, I can’t stay too long; I’ve got to go get a shower before it’s too late. We are not used to getting water on a Sunday but we did today. It’s a good start for the new GM; and I have all the confidence in the world that Mr Hippolyte will fix the problem. My sick and elderly mother and the family of my brother (who is critically ill) will sure welcome the arrival of water. Today, we are feeling like the rest of St. Lucia!
