WHAT CAN NIGERIA DO WITH A NON-PERMANENT UN SEAT? Nigeria has been elected with (Africas slot) into the UN-SECURITY COUNCIL on a non-permanent basis to serve a 2years tenure of office, but what benefits does this officet give Nigeria as a country or Africa that it represents? From my knowledge, this is the 4th or 5th time Nigeria would be serving in that capacity, just as several other African countries had equally served, but what have we gained individually or collectively with that position? Togo and Morocco will vacate the seat in January, what did they achieve? In my view, if African leaders fail to demand for a UN-permanent slot on a collective basis,we would continue to perambulate on a spot without anyvoice. What Africa need is not a non-permanent seat, it is a s good as useless. What we need as a continent is a permanent seat, so as to be in a position to defend the rights and interests of our people in an equal footing with other continents. Can Nigeria defend Nigeria with a UN-non-permanent seat? No. No matter how much you try, the veto countries would veto you out. If this seat cannot even defend Nigeria as the occupant, how then would it defend Africa? My Advice African leaders need to come together and speak with one voice to demand for a permanent seat at the UN. This shall put Africa in the capacity to effectively defend the interest of its people. AOH Mr. Rights
