Imagine clicking through a beauty blog, and before you even wonder whether that shade of lipstick would suit you, hey presto, there’s a photo of you wearing the makeup. Cool, right :) A new ad platform called Looking Glass is trying to make that scenario commonplace. Developed by virtual makeup startup Modiface, Looking Glass adds a digital trying-on functionality to any website or mobile app featuring beauty products. This means that by hovering on or clicking on any beauty product on a site, users can see the makeup layered onto their own photo via augmented reality. These personalised, augmented reality images can also appear as native ads within a publisher’s site, or even as banner ads. For the personalised photos to come up on a brand or content site, users have to first register with Modiface and upload an image of themselves to the Looking Glass app. Modiface launched Looking Glass app at the ad:tech conference in New York earlier this month. The company said that an initial study showed a 158% increase in consumer engagement when Looking Glass was added to a content site, with a 27% increase in overall time spent on the site.
