WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR CANADA? Well, time for a recap. If Canada China is ratified: 1) China can sue Canada for reasons that interrupt their ability to make a profit under the INVESTOR STATE ARBITRATION CLAUSE, 2) China does not have to own 100% of the company to activate an Investor State Arbitration claim, 3) a 3-person tribunal will decide the amount of awards at an international level, outside of Canada’s legal system, 4) it will handcuff Provincial, Municipal and First Nations governments ability to change/ improve/ enforece regulations to protect their citizens and the environment. 5) new governments will not be able to reinstate our previous environmental protection that were gutted in Omnibus Bill C 38 & 45, 6) PREMIERS have the power to challenge the Canada-China FIPA, but to date have not. 7) What are the implications in the vital area of national security? *8) There was no consultation with First Nations or Canadians who will be impacted by the ratification of this agreement.
