WHAT FULANI ELDERS ARE REPORTING TO FG Tiv/Fulani Clashes: Miyetti Allah Seeks Jonathan’s Intervention Following the recurring clashes between the Tivs locals and Fulani herdsmen in Benue State, the Miyetti Allah Kautal-Hore socio-cultural association has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene and bring to an end the clashes that have claimed lives and property of warring parties. The national president of Meyetti Allah Kautal-Hore, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, made the appeal in an interview he granted news men in Kaduna at the weekend. “I am appealing to the federal government to please intervene in the problem to save the Fulanis from the incessant killings in Benue State. I also appeal to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to personally intervene in the matter and strengthen security between Benue and Nassarawa border.” Alhaji Bodejo said: “The Tivs and the Fulanis have been living peacefully for many years, and for many years now some Benue residents have been collecting money from the Fulanis, sometimes up to N300, 000, before they can allow their cows to graze in certain areas in the state or else the Fulanis should restrict their grazing to only parts of Taraba, Plateau and Nasarawa states. “This is the major cause of the problem as the Fulanis could not meet up with the increasing demands anymore. As a result, many Fulanis have been maimed and their cows have been killed.” On the allegation that it is the Fulani herdsmen that have been attacking villages in Benue State, the national president said, “That is not true, the Fulanis are innocent of all these accusations, because they are always in the bush, they have no access to the media in order to defend themselves whenever they are accused. They also have no one to rescue them from the hands of the Tivs. “Worse still, any attack carried out by unknown gunmen is attributed to the Fulanis. About a week ago, almost 500 cows belonging to the Fulanis were killed in Benue State, but no one said anything about it. Many Fulani houses too have been destroyed.” Whats your take on this
