WHAT I LEARNED IN CHURCH TODAY: FEELING GOOD ABOUT OURSELVES Psalms 139:14. October 5, 2014 When we realize God has done a wonderful thing in us, we ought to feel good about ourselves. Instead we persecute ourselves and become overly critical of ourselves. But we cant let others verify who we are. We reject ourselves and compare ourselves to others who do more or seem to have more. We have to know that we always have Jesus, who is better than anyone else. If we woke up this morning with a sheet and a pillow, instead of concrete and cardboard, we already know Gods goodness. If we have a closet full of clothes even while saying we have nothing to wear or a freezer full of food while maintaining we have nothing to eat, we know Gods goodness. Whether we say Love is a many splendid thing or as Lou Rawls sings Love is a hurting thing we must realize that when someone else is making us happy its a temporary thing. Making ourself happy is what is lasting. God never intended for others to make us happy. We fall victim to financial, emotional and physical pressures. We get depressed based on someone elses issues with us. There are seven billion people in this world, but there is only me (you) Our worthiness is determined by our rarity. There aint nobody else like me!! (you) We cant all look like Halle Berry or Denzel Washington. If we did they wouldnt be special. Were looking for that six-packs versus that six-digit bank account. Whether you grow it or buy it, wear it well. David was the runt of the litter but he was the one who was anointed to be the king. And even Jesus himself was reportedly quite average looking and He became the Saviour of the world. We put so much emphasis on how we look, we forget to attend to the spirit. Happy by Pharrell, tells us we ought to be happy if were still breathing air We must become aware of our shouting opportunities: If our children are safe and well, Shout! If we have health, food and a little money in our pockets, Shout! Jesuss joy has to be fulfilled from within us as He demands. Were still carrying around stuff that he has already taken to the alter. Were hard on ourselves but we are exactly where were suppose to be. When we feel happy we tell ourselves we shouldnt be because we are used to being unhappy. The enemy tells us we should be dissatisfied. Life is full of curveballs. Friends will let us down. But every litte failure or disappointment should not throw us into a tailspin We should strive to be like the duck. A duck can swim in water and never get wet because its skin is so oily. First, ducks walk on water then they swim in water before they takes off and fly. A duck s body is full of oil, (synonymous to the 10 virgins with the lamps.) We cant walk on water, swim or fly when we have no Holy Ghost. With the Holy Ghost deep within us no one can take our joy. Dont let them rob you of your joy. Know what makes you happy on your own and strive fir that. Remove jealousy from your spirit and be happy for others. Laugh when you want to cry. Look in the mirror and know that God did it perfectly and beautifully. Not always fine, not always pretty, but perfectly beautiful. I am the master of my faith I am the captain of my soul. No one else has power or control over me, I refuse to let them. Learn to live in the absent of those who dont honor you. Sometimes bologna will make youre happier than a steak. It doesnt take as much to make you happy as you may think. Our outside doesnt always reflect the inside. We make choices not to be happy when we can just as easily choose to be happy. Jesus has already taken care of our issues so we are free to pursue our own happiness through Him. A smile is the best make up we can wear.
