WHAT IS A HYPOTHESIS? Your hypothesis is a statement that you can test. You may begin with a question, but your hypothesis will end up as a statement that you will set out to prove. Because you are trying to prove it to be true, it needs to be testable. The hypothesis will include the two variables you are working with: an independent variable, which is what you will input or apply in the experiment, and the dependent variable, which is what will result from your input. All boys in this classroom have red socks. That is your hypothesis. Now you have to test it, to see if its true or false. So, you do an investigation. You do a little survey and go around to check who has red socks and who does not. If no boy has red socks, then you REJECT the hypothesis. If one boy has red socks you reject the hypothesis. If ALL boys have red socks then you ACCEPT the hypothesis. (If girls have red socks, it doesnt count since the hypothesis is about boys) Is the concept of a HYPOTHESIS clear ?
