WHAT IS HON BENJA SMOKING? A few weeks ago, Hon Benja was a shoo-in to be the next Kericho governor. But over the last 1 week he has been on a media blitz to talk himself out of that seat. I watched him on TV on Sunday proposing to scrap womens nominated slots and I actually thought he was high on something but didnt worry coz I knew he would eventually sober up. I was wrong. After alienating all Kenyan women, he went further last night on citizen TV and proposed that constituencies be reduced back to 210. Hon Benja, as kalenjins we got a very good deal from the IBRC. This is How:The 3 constituencies of Uasing Gishu were all split into 2. In Baringo, they got a new Baringo South Constituency. In Nandi they split both Tinderet and Emgwen. What about the kipsigis? we got 5 new constituencies (Kuresoi North, Kipkelion East, Sigowet-Soin, Bomet East and Emura Dikir). We almost got one in Narok South hadnt they separated the kipsigis of Ilmotiok from those of Sogoo/Sagamian area. But no worries... we will soon overtake our Maa brothers there, kwa vile tunazaana sana. Hon Benja, after this hard fought gains, you are again taking as backwards. To put our deal in perspective Hon Benja ,the entire central province got only 5 new constituencies, remember how much noise they made and this almost split the nascent jubilee coalition. On women, stop looking at the affirmative action in financial terms only. All 47 elected senators are men!!! Doesnt that worry you? When your daughter switches the TV and sees you and a room of men only in bunge discussing her future, what goes through her mind? Doesnt it perpetuate the myth that she doesnt belong there? Hon Benja, other than Tom Biegon, no one else knows what you are up to. This is not about the wage bill as you claim. there are hundred and hundreds of parastatals which add no value to our lives. Billions have been poured into KMC as an example but they cant even sell a kilo of meat. Did you read Paul Mwangis Sunday article on govt wastage? What about the provincial administration who are duplicating the work the governors are doing. Focus on those first before touching the women and our new constituencies. That way we shall know you are genuine. Ill give you 1 credit though: At least you are not a potted plant in bunge. At least you are speaking and engaging Kenyans in a discussion albeit a disingenuous discussion.
