WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BUSINESS FATALITY IN NIGERIA? 20 years ago,I worked with an indigenous firm reputed to be the largest exporter of Cocoa and Sheanut from Nigeria, often exporting up to 30,000MT of MC 1 per annum: In that period we are superior to our competitors in the market, including Olam,Afro-Continental, ED&F Mann, Ditesa,Churchgate,Pepsicola World trade,Dansa Foods to mention a few: By the year 2000 almost all the indigenous firms have gone under or are comatose: Interestingly,Olam and Dangote are still waxing stronger: Now,beyond sensational One Week Training to manufacture exporters and dubious job creation statistics in the face of reducing national capacity utilisation: How can we reduce the fatality rate of indigenous companies and businesses in nigeria: Over 90% of companies that are in business 20years ago as at today, have gone under: Now,what are the factors responsible for this alarming trend and what could be done to revamp the situation? This I think is where The Real Transformation should start...Creating sustainable and affordable businesses? Why is the fatality or mortality rate in indigenous businesses and companies increasing geometrically in the last 20 years in the midst of increasing outputs from our tertiary institutions, swelling the ranks and file of the army of unemployed? Can scholars and business consultants help us out? How are the various tiers of Government engaging business survivability of existing businesses and sustainable start ups of new businesses premised on a human capital led national development as a tool of national rejuvenation and transformation?
