WHAT IS THE MATTER THIS man came to me, discouraged and disheartened; and 1 I asked him, What has happened? He then related the following experience The first few weeks after I received Eternal Life I was floating through azure skies. It seemed that nothing could ever touch me, that I could never go back to the old life again. Then one day I received a fearful jar; things happened to me unexpectedly, and I found myself in darkness. The light had gone. All my joy seeped out. I did not know what to do. For days I have lived in misery. I have come over to see you this morning to ask you what is the matter. I said to him, It is the simplest thing in the world. You have broken fellowship with your Father. You see, when you received Eternal Life no one instructed you or told you what to do. You did not know exactly what you had received or how to take care of the thing that had been given to you. I passed through that myself. What you should have done when you received Eternal Life was to begin to study the Word. Our books and Correspondence Course are what you need. They will teach you what you should know. Here is what has happened to you: Your fellowship has been broken. The adversary has taken advantage of you, and you have thought that you were never Born Again. Yes, lie replied, that is true. I remember that somebody said to me, `If you had received Eternal Life, you would never have done that thing; you would never have said that thing. I had no answer. I can understand that. I think that every believer goes through that experience unless he has been correctly instructed at the beginning. You should have known that you had been born into His Family, that God was now your Father, that you were His child, that Jesus was your Intercessor ever living to pray for you, and that He is your Advocate at the right hand of the Father. You should have known 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, lie is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Well, what does that mean It means that after you have received Eternal Life, if you do anything to break your fellowship with the Father and your heart feels desperate and miserable as a result of it, you should look up and say, `Father, forgive me, I did not mean to say that, and the instant you confess your sins, He forgives you. You should have known 1 John 2:1,2: My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. The moment you sinned, you lost your sense of Righteousness. Fear took its place. Had you known that you had a righteous Advocate Who could go into the Fathers presence and plead your case for you, it would have saved you those days of misery. The next time anything happens, you look up and say, `Father, in Jesus Name forgive me. Then your Advocate takes the case over. You are forgiven. I thought I didnt have Eternal Life. I thought the whole thing had gone to pieces. Well, it hasnt. You are still His child. I wonder if you know 1 John 5:13, `These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have Eternal Life, even unto you that believe on the name of the son of God. I remember reading that scripture, but I guess it didnt register at the time. I see it now. I have this Eternal Life in me now. Satan cannot take it from me. He cannot rob me of it. I am the Fathers child. After I received Eternal Life I asked the Holy Spirit to come and make His home in me. There is a passage somewhere that says, `Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. Yes that is 1 John 4:4. Did you notice the first part of that verse Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. We are of God. We are born from above. We have received the Nature and Life of our own Father God. We havent been only adopted into the family. We havent simply received forgiveness of our past sins. We have something infinitely more than that. All that we have ever done has been remitted, wiped out. That is called remission. When we received Eternal Life we were made alive in Christ. That means that the thing which had held us in bondage was Spiritual Death the nature of the adversary. That nature was driven out of us and the Nature )f the Father took its place. So we became New Creations. Now all the temptations that come to us must come from without. They cannot come from within. Anything that comes to us from without can be conquered. Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is inside you than he that is outside attempting to destroy you. I wonder if you have ever noticed 1 John 5:4,5: `For what soever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith. It was faith in Jesus Christ when you accepted Him as Saviour that brought you into the overcoming class. You are now an overcomer. You are now a conqueror. `Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors. The Spirit has enumerated there in Romans 8:37-39 all the things that can come against a believer. He climaxes it by saying, `Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. No one can separate you from the love of God in Christ. They cannot do it. The Father loves you more now than He did before you were a Christian. And Jesus loves you more than He did before He died for you. So notice the 8th verse, `And who is he that overcometh the world, but lie that believeth that Jesus is the son of God? You are Gods overcomer. He has made you that. It was and is Gods battle. It wasnt your battle, and it is not your battle today. He has made you what you are. Isaiah 41:10: `Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Study that scripture; meditate on it until every phase of it becomes a part of you. `Fear thou not means `do not look around you. Look at Him, look at the Word. Just keep your eyes on that scripture. God is in that Word. He is back of it. He is back of you, and He will back you up to the limit. Romans 8:31 is yours: `What then shall we say to these things? I f God is f or us, who is against us? God is for you. There arent forces enough this side of Hell to conquer you. The discouraged man saw his rights in Christ. I want to thank you for this. You certainly have put me on my feet again. Im going to take that Correspondence Course. I am going to know the Word. I am going to know my Father. Goodbye, and God bless you. Satan can rob us of our fellowship with the Father, with the Word, with the brethren, and with ourselves; but he cannot rob us of our relationship with the Father. Two Kinds of Life
