WHAT IS THE VALUE OF GBMS ENDORSEMENT OF HH? Let us talk numbers. Let us assume that the General Conference held on Monday 1st December, 2014 was a proper convention, as claimed by its organisers. Let us suppose that each province sent the 600 delegates as required in the PF Constitution, which would mean that Northern and Muchinga provinces, sent 1,200 delegates in total. These are supposed to be Bemba-speaking and, therefore, GBM strongholds. At the election held on 1st December 2014, GBM polled 195 votes. That is even less than the 200 supporters who had endorsed his candidature That is also 705 votes LESS than Mr Miles Sampa, who might claim support from the same pool (Northern and Muchinga provinces) According to the figures given by the Returning Officer for that election Mr. Mutale Kaulungombe, GBM received only 16.58% of the total votes cast. 195 votes is only about 33% of the total number of delegates from Northern province (600), and only 16% of the total delegates from Northern and Muchinga provinces (1,200). But we know, from Returning Officer Mr. Kaulungombes public statement, that there were only 1,176 delegates, of whom only 1,127 actually voted. GBM received only 195 of those votes, even less than the number who endorsed his candidature and only 16.58% of the total votes cast at that conference and election. According to Mr. Miles Sampa, Edgar Lungus General Conference was over-subscribed in terms of delegates - 8,000. Edgar Lungu has nothing to fear from GBMs endorsement of HH. Those claiming that GBM carries Northern province, are living in dreamland.
