WHAT IS WORTH CELEBRATING IN NIGERIA AT 53, SHAME ON OUR LEADERS!!! @Our leaders are smiling, citizens are crying: What are we celebrating? @Is it the murder of over 40 innocent, sleeping students in their dormitory? @Which of our leader will celebrate his birthday if he loses children same week? @Universities have remained shut for close to three months due to ASUU strike, no solution but celebration!!! @In spite of renewed and repeated assurances of regular and uninterrupted power supply by government, it has remained epileptic and unreliable!!! @The judiciary is a shadow of its age-long tradition of being the last hope of the people; corrupt leaders are walking the streets triumphantly!!! @Insecurity is at its worst, where Inspector General of Police has placed officers and men of the Nigeria Police as well as other special operatives on 24-hour red alert nationwide!!! @Kidnappers and murderer bathe their hands in innocent blood and our leaders appear the following day in their best agbada smiling without a sense of shame!!! @Celebration even when the president and commander-in chief admitted that activities of the sect were depressing him and his administration!!! It does not require a special skill or intelligence to know that Nigeria is ailing and failing. Although those at the helm of affairs may find it a bitter pill to swallow, the problem of the country is intricately tied to the poor quality of leadership. Chinua Achebe wrote in The Trouble with Nigeria, “There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian character. There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian land or climate or water or air or anything else. The Nigerian problem is the unwillingness or inability of its leaders to rise to the responsibility, to the challenge of personal example which is the hallmarks of true leadership.” The situation in Nigeria now needs leaders of iron resolve, strong courage and sharp intellect with acute and exceptional sense of history to lead the people out of the doldrums. I join Wole Soyinka to call on those who claim to exercise the authority of a fatwa to pronounce that very doom, with all its moral weight, upon those who engage in this serial violation of the right to life, those who murder innocent students, residents, Muslims and Christians in the North The Northern leaders and people should rise up in unison to condemn and reject all these killings. If this is not stopped now, I doubt if it will not spark series of unrest in other part of the country if a Northerner becomes Nigeria President in 2015. Because it is like making Nigeria ungovernable for Southerner President, so same may be for Northern President. Let us bring back our common sense. May God comfort the families, relatives and friends of the innocent students killed in the Yobe attack. May the souls of the departed rest in peace and the SOULS OF THE KILLERS ROAST IN HELL. Islam prohibits killing of unarmed and innocents.
