WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MSWT? Solid waste treatment though an important matter is not the most urgent problem facing this country, the economy is in decline, tourism is deteriorating; offshore is declining too; health care is crumbling and citizens are at risk, and access to tertiary education is under threat. Solid waste management cannot trump these issues in importance and any taxation should be directed towards these issues critical to Barbadian citizens well-being. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MSWT? In the first instance another tax on an already overtaxed population and businesses is counter -productive. The minor problem you solve the side effects are greater with the businesses recovering their payment by higher prices to consumers, who will be shorter of cash having paid the tax whether by month or week. The economy will weaken further. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MSWT? It is structured incorrectly and causes undue hardship . Now the MOF has muddied the waters for there is some confusion as to if 190,000.00 refers to the value of the improved land or to house and land. He used the term property value which is house and land. Therefore very few pensioners will be eased. WHAT IS WRONG WITH WASTE TO ENERGY PLANT? it is too expensive, too big, will be under-utilised and in two years times Barbadians will be asked to pay for this one for the treatment service, so more taxes and then for the energy which will retail at twice what Barbadians are paying now. In my view this is someones wet dream at the expense of Barbadians and Barbadian interests at this time.
