WHAT JESUS TAUGHT: THE RESURRECTION “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen! And I have the keys of Hades and of Death” (Rev. 1:18-19). “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (John 11:25). In his song “Sunday’s On The Way,” Carman reminds us of the mounting fear that Satan endured during those Friday and Saturday hours following Jesus’ crucifixion. He comprehended fully Jesus’ words: “Destroy this temple [His body], and in three days I will raise it up” (John 2:19). He understood that Jesus’ resurrection from the sealed tomb would translate into the sealing of his own doom. Christ’s power over Satan was demonstrated on the Cross, on a Friday afternoon some 2000 years ago. His power over death was demonstrated the following Sunday morning, through His resurrection. Jesus had fully and forever conquered death! (See Revelation 20:14.) Without a proper understanding of, and appreciation for, Jesus’ resurrection, the Christian is unable to fully realize in his daily life the divine power that he presently has in Christ: “Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, EVEN SO WE also should WALK IN NEWNESS of life…Our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live [NOW, TODAY] with Him” (Rom. 6:4, 6-8).
