WHAT MAKES SENSE AND WHAT DOES NOT I learned that Federal - TopicsExpress

WHAT MAKES SENSE AND WHAT DOES NOT I learned that Federal Government led by GEJ gan gan (the original) will be meeting with the leadership of Academic Staff Union of University tomorrow. That should be the last straw and I am hoping it wont break the already wearied camels back. I hope all common sense, is it really common? would be at work tomorrow so that our university will open. By now, most universities have lost a semester. If it the strike encroaches into next year, it means a whole year is lost. I hope common sense will prevail tomorrow on the part of the politicians in Aso rock. What about ASUU, you may ask me. Good. Some folks believe that ASUU is synonymous with strike. I also had mine own share in the 90s. ASUU would not have gone on this strike in the first place. It was the Federal Government that drove ASUU to the wall. Had it been that the FG was not blind to several letters and warnings, had it been the Federal Government had not tried to write a political script for ASUU to act for them, ASUU wouldnt have gone on strike. What will make sense tomorrow would be for FG led by GEJ not to do political reasoning and manipulation. It will be suicidal if he tries to do that. With due respect to NURTW, ASUU is a body of intellectuals. I know that Mr. President knows this. Therefore, an open and honest talk on the way forward for Nigeria universities should be aimed at. GEJ can aim at it and get it. It all depends on him. Like my elders use to say...A ki ri efon taa le e meji... That is you dont shoot a lion twice. If you miss it the first time, it is your life for it. For the GEJ led federal government, this is an opportunity to get ASUU though after several shots. He should know that ASUU works by principles, which we adore. Though at times, the younger members see these principles too academic and many. They really wish they can do it the way of the NURTW or the politicians. But this is ASUU and the difference must be clearer. By now I hope the federal government has acquired some senses along the tow of these past four months. One, that you dont rush to the press bla bla bla...we have made this offer, we have given them billions of naira and going so low hiring hungry market women to force ASUU back to the classrooms. FG cant succeed like that. It does not make sense. I hope FG will take the part of honour and not force the universities open. This too does not make sense. If the universities were forced opened as it is being insinuated yesterday, it will amount to no sense got yet by the government. If lecturers are not in their offices to work, it is a waste of time and resources for government to indirectly lure the students back to school. Who will teach them, who will coordinate the faculty, the departments. Will the Vice Chancellors and Registrars have Senate meeting and run the universities. This does not make sense too. I hope common sense will prevail tomorrow. I hope.
