WHAT MAKES US SIGNIFICANT???? A mother holds her newborn infant in her arms. That child is significant to her! You may ask why. The child has not accomplished a thing. It cannot earn money, and it cannot help her. Why should it be significant? You know the answer: that childs significance to the mother is simply the fact that the child exists. So it is with you. Your greatest value is simply that you are Gods child. Thats what John meant in this verse: How great is the love that the Father has shown to us! We were called Gods children, and such we are. Apart from any peformance on your part, He loves you simply because you are His child. Once you have accepted that truth, you will understand that no activity in life is as important as fellowshipping with Him. And no achievement in life is so important that it can displace fellowship with Him. As you think about this, something else will come into focus. You are released from the emotional storms that rage within those who feel their only significance is in what they do, in what they earn, in what they control or in honors they have achieved. Once you realize your significance comes strictly from your relationship with the Father, you are free to be productive and useful, using your talents and gifts in ways that are meaningful to you and to others. You need never again feel the pressure to become important through what you have accomplished.
