WHAT SHOULD I BREED MY MARE TOO? (How do we answer?) from Chauntelle Ison Ok so I know the Friday rant is supposed to be on Fridays but Im up to my ear drums with this and cant contain it... Im absolutely fed up with seeing all over my news feed what should I breed my mare too? Lets start - firstly mare is an unregistered history unknown rescue ...!!! I mean what the hell are they thinking?????? The mare could even be baron or too much age (one in particular was a 23yr old in light/poor condition rescued only months prior.) It peeves me to the max...!!!!! These backyard breeders are the reason so many horses are slaughtered each year... No main reason for breeding eg conformation, temperament, showing etc theyre breeding just because. - it shits me to the heavens..!!!! Rant over I couldnt agree more. Wrong on all levels. Leave breeding to the breeders folks! Secondly, can you point such people to the Responsible Horse Breeders site, rather than answer them with all the reasons WHY they should not contemplate breeding. Also share this link - https://facebook/notes/responsible-horse-breeders-network/code-of-a-responsible-breeder/312326162191652 All of us must try to take some pro-active approaches to warding off this wave of newbies coming in this spring to breed substandard and largely unwanted foals. People with cheap substandard sires are going to be hunting for them to give their poor boys some excitement. They will be sitting ducks for the freebie services on offer. It is no use discouraging them from the point of cost or other valid reasons like colour, because they wont listen. Cost is never a consideration because they dont intend to spend any $ especially if they are going to sell it (and make money of course). Neither do they care what others think about their choices, until they start pleading for money and someone complains. It is all so predictable.
