WHAT THEOLOGY SHOWS UP IN YOUR CD COLLECTION? October 14, 2013 Proverbs 13:20; 1 Corinthians Key Verse: Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed. I have this conversation far too often: “But, Bishop, they make me laugh.” “They are fools. God is saying that a fool will mess you up. I am telling you, stop hanging around with fools.” Paul wrote, “Do not be deceived: ‘Evil company corrupts good habits’” (1 Cor. 15:33 nkjv). God said, “Do not be a fool.” Whether you call them your friends or associates does not matter. The Bible is plain and true: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” “Evil company” can be defined many different ways. We “keep company” with music artists on CDs, with authors in books and celebrities in magazines; and with a whole universe full of “stars” on television. In recent years, we have begun to spend more and more time keeping company with strangers on the Internet. In others words, you may not even know the people you keep company with, but they exert their influence nonetheless! What kind of music do you pump into your ears during the day? You may not know the singer, but if he serves anyone or anything other than God, then he has invaded your mind and messed it up. I realize that I am meddling now, but ask yourself if you listen more to that music than to your Father in heaven. If you listen to the singer more, then that singer is corrupting you! He or she has already pulled you away from your first love. Hour by hour, you take in the theology and values of the singers, songwriters, and musicians you listen to. Survey your CD and cassette selection for the morals and beliefs they promote. You listen to those things for hours and then go to church on Sunday. Do you really think your pastor is going to straighten out so many hours of indoctrination in just one hour? If you do, then you may qualify as a fool who is keeping evil company. Is it time to make some changes? PRAYER Father, I have been keeping some bad company lately. Thank You for warning me about the danger I am in. Give me the wisdom and courage to change my life and my close associations. It may be difficult, but I will see it through because I love You more than anything and anyone else. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
